Kai Havertz Man of the Match
Kai Havertz put in an impressive performance in his first start for Chelsea after completing his transfer to the club from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer. The midfielder was key as the Blues beat Bournemouth 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League opener.
A Promising Performance
Havertz showed glimpses of his quality in his 45 minutes on the pitch. His passing, movement and composure in possession was highly impressive, and he played with confidence despite it being his debut for his new club.
The 21-year-old clearly looks set to be a key player for the Blues this season and his performance against Bournemouth has served as a sign of what could be to come.
Contributing to the Win
Havertz was involved in two of the three goals scored by Chelsea. His corner was cleverly flicked into the path of Kurt Zouma by Olivier Giroud to open the scoring, before his performance in the move that led to Tammy Abraham’s goal was particularly impressive.
The German linked up well with fellow debutant Timo Werner to create the opportunity, which Abraham superbly finished off to double the lead.
Man of the Match
As a result of his showing, Havertz was subsequently named Man of the Match. It is a performance that has certainly done enough to suggest Chelsea have made wise investments in the young midfielder.
He should be a key player for Frank Lampard’s side this season, and if he can continue to perform in such a way, the Blues should be challenging for the Premier League title come the end of the season.
